Getting Started with Equation

Welcome to the Equation platform — a secure, scalable environment for exposing and consuming engineering calculations via APIs and clients.

This section helps you get oriented, understand your role, and start using the tools available to you.

👥 1. Understand Your Role

Whether you're an engineer using the web or Excel clients, a developer creating APIs, or part of the operations team — there's a path for you.

👉 Start with the Audience Guide to see what parts of the platform apply to your work.

🔐 2. Access & Authentication

All access to Equation is secured through Azure Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory). Depending on your role and client, you may authenticate using:

  • Haskoning's SSO via browser or specific clients
  • Azure CLI token
  • OAuth 2.0 bearer tokens for app-to-app communication

👉 Learn more in Access & Authentication.

📚 3. API Documentation - Developer Portal

The Equation platform exposes calculation services as standardized APIs. While most users interact through clients, developers and integrators may work directly with the APIs.

You can:

  • Discover published APIs and their purposes
  • View input and output schemas
  • Download OpenAPI specifications
  • Interactively test endpoints in the Developer Portal

👉 Learn more in Equation Developer Portal.

🚀 4. Get Up and Running

Find out how to:

  • Access the correct environment (Acceptance or Production)
  • Use Equation through the available clients (WaterFuser, Excel, Python, Grasshopper)
  • Request access via WeConnect

👉 Go to the Client Index to explore how to use each supported client.
